How Your Gift Helps
When you choose to support the Stein Institute, you’re making the decision to support the pursuit of a healthier, longer life for you, your loved ones and your community. Your gift can have an impact in many ways. See how.
- Research
There are a variety of research initiatives underway at the Stein Institute—studies on memory, the effects of physical activity and the identification of genes with roles in aging, among many other areas. Through research we gain an understanding of aging and how best to achieve healthy longevity.
- Student Support
Support for students can take many forms. Gifts to the Stein Institute can fund fellowships, helping some of the best and brightest graduate students to help advance the study of aging. Thanks to private support we currently have fellows working on projects related to Parkinson’s Disease and successful cognitive aging.
- Faculty Support
Faculty salaries may be covered by the state of California but the costs associated with their research are not. Private support can help faculty members get their research projects off the ground as well as provide continued funding that enables discovery.
- Community Outreach
The Stein Institute is committed to sharing information gained from research on aging. We offer public lectures by our renowned physicians and scientists on the UC San Diego School of Medicine campus, which are also broadcast on UCSD TV. In addition, we work in the community, speaking at assisted living centers, senior centers and other facilities whose goal is to help the aging public.
- Programs
Our High School Summer Training in Aging Research Program and Medical Student Training in Aging Research Program engage students in research at varying levels. These programs help prepare the next generation of leaders who will continue to make breakthroughs in the study of healthy aging.
